Up, up and away!

I’ve flown in a lot of planes over the past sixteen years.  Some have been truly memorable for all the right reason yet others have left me safe in the knowledge that if I ever fly them again, it will be too soon.  So, with this in mind, I found myself on board the Qantas A380 airbus a few days ago as I returned from the UK.

So what is an A380?

Well, in simple terms, it is one mother of a plane.  A double decker, wide body beast that holds upwards of 850 passengers and was launched for commercial flights in 2007 with Singapore Airlines.  The Qantas variety look impressive upon entry though with a new age of premium economy, the standard economy are among the smallest in the world though the seats often come at a relatively cheap price.  My London to Brisbane return came in at just over AU $1,350 which shouldn’t be laughed at.

Another advantage of flying Qantas is that they have a mini bar full of orange juice, water and soft drinks that you can enjoy at your leisure.  They also have a pleasant stash of fruit and muesli bars to enjoy.  One thing that has frustrated me over the years is the lack of effort major airline go to keep their passengers hydrated with fluid so this is a big positive for Qantas.

The food on the other hand served for main meals was, well, I’ve probably fed animals better food this rubbery and dry excuse for a meal!  It was terrible in every sense of the word though the only fault I could find among an otherwise exemplary service offered by Australia’s flying Kangaroo.  Bonus points to the cabin crew who were all friendly and helpful.  They also didn’t feel the need to put 200,000 announcements over the loud speakers through the flight with allowed passengers to get on with their entertainment viewing.

Ohh, if you are looking for a find stash of films to enjoy, then Qantas will be exactly what you are after.  With over 250 movies to chose from, there is something for everyone from all walks of life.  Included as well is a large and varied selection of music, TV shows and documentaries to keep you occupied should sleep be hard to come by.

All in all, Qantas offers a wonderful service, aside from the meek food offerings so load up on a hearty meal at the airport before you board your flight and you won’t go far wrong.
