The past few days have been somewhat traumatic for the many millions of David Bowie fans around the world. From stunning tributes in Brixton to New York and many places in between, artists on stage around the world doing their bit to pay homage as has been seen by Madonna’s wonderful rendition of Starman to Australia’s very own Sarah Blasko performing a hauntingly beautiful cover of Life On Mars? in the studios of JJJ yesterday morning.
The one thing many of us should be taking out of these sad times is that one must always continue to move forwards in life. I know, I know, I harp on this all the time yet I still see so many friends sitting back in jobs they hate, settling for relationships that are not for them and building a wall of debt around them from credit cards, home loans and flashy cars they don’t really need. The fact is, the less you have in life, the better off you will be.
So how do you escape the rut? Well, first and foremost, you need to plan your escape route from the doldrums. Take yourself to a quiet place with some paper and pens and try to figure out exactly what makes you happy in life. Is it travelling? Is it painting? Perhaps it’s completing triathlons? Whatever it may be. list it all out in front of you and then you are ready for the next step. Planning.
Nothing comes from nothing so unless you have a plan of attack in front of you, your dreams won’t be any nearer to fruition any time soon. Think about how you are going to achieve your dreams? Do you need to save money? Do you need to clear debt? Is there a dead end boyfriend holding you back? If any of this rings true, write down the avenues you are going to take to eradicate the drama and hassle from your life. It might seem impossible to begin with but, as we have seen with the life of Bowie, the bigger the dream, the more exciting the world around you becomes.
Once you have it all down on paper. the full picture will already begin to take shape. It may be the first step on the ladder but the first step is always the most important so never take it for granted. Every goal you achieve in life is completed one step at a time. So whilst that South American holiday may seem a distant dream, it won’t seem any closer until you have begun the planning process. Most importantly, set a deadline for your goals. It’s one thing to want to travel to your favourite destination however, if you don’t have a plan in place and a deadline to achieve your goal then you won’t be going anywhere.
David Bowie was an exceptional talent and a pioneer on many levels. He didn’t reach all the highs in his life by sitting back waiting for it all to evolve, he went out and made it happen. And that my friends, is what you should all be doing right not. Not tomorrow, today!
