“Bowie jibes were just for fun” says Morrissey

British pop icon Morrissey has revealed that his nigh on 20 year public feud with David Bowie was just for fun.

During a recent question and answer session over a fan site, Morrissey recounted how his public lashings of Bowie were “just for fun” and that Toni Visconti attempted to bring the two together in 2006 to record a cover of “You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling”, however Morrissey states that “I loved this idea, but David wouldn’t budge. I know I’ve criticised David in the past, but it’s all been snotnosed junior high ribbing on my part. I think he knows that.”

The split began when Morrissey left Bowie’s tour in late 1995 when he was playing support on the Outside tour.  At the time it was believed Morrissey left the tour due to ill health. It was later revealed that Morrissey felt that the tour should have been a co-headline jaunt and not a case of the former Smiths frontman playing support act.

As Morrissey enjoyed a revival during the early part of the 2000’s he constantly took a swipe at Bowie for being a has been performer among other things.  All rather a sad state of affairs considering Morrissey is one of the most important British musicians of the past 30 years.
